May your day be glorious and your year to come even better!

Now Say Friend Like You Mean It Sep. 13th, 2007 @ 11:00 pm
Character:  Anya
Rating:  R
Prompt:  30: Anya
Word Count:  ~440
Summary: How Anya thinks of friendship those final weeks of Season 7.

Now Say Friend Like You Mean It

I actually tried to do the writing on paper thing today while eating lunch at my desk.  I began a rather bloody look at one time when Anya chose to take her vengeance job into her own hands.  Only one problem - writing on paper only works if you bring it home.  By the time I got home and didn't find said paper, this happened.

But I got a wonderful surprise about writing today too that more than cancels out forgotten Anya fic.  Mind-boggling shinies!  'Tabula Litterae' got first for short fic at [info]still_grrr:

And 'A History of Fire' got first for longer fic at [info]still_grrr (I didn't even realize people had read it, let alone liked it!):

Thanks so much to everyone who voted.  I'm gobsmacked!  And [info]xlivvielockex needs to get a banner-making prize.  The woman is a marvel!  Giles holding Dawn, but the way his head is tilted up and his face is a bit expressionless - ooo.  And Mal looking consternated!

"I Don't Dance" Sep. 10th, 2007 @ 08:52 pm
People are doing really angsty and deep and wonderful things for [info]open_on_sunday's prompt Hate (as is to be expected).  But I'm going with writing a drabble series based on 'The Village People Offensive.'  [Thanks, [info]beer_good_foamy, for the extra push.]  So here's more crack:

"I Don't Dance"

Ficathon Season Sep. 9th, 2007 @ 10:00 am
I'm taking a note from [info]antennapedia, [info]alisanne, and others on keeping track of what I'm working on.

Here are the ficathons I've signed up for:

[info]dawn_all_along - due Oct 1st

I'm rewriting 'Passion' from Buffy Season 2 with Dawn in it.  I already have my idea and a bit on paper.  I'm rewatching the four episodes before and 'Passion' itself this week so I can finish this.

[info]snape_after_dh - due Nov 1st

I'm now glad I didn't sign up for a specific prompt because I'm probably going to have to change which story I'm writing for this (other idea is below).  So I'm going for the metafictional one I started just after I finished reading DH but have yet to return to.

Buffy Is the Hero, Damnit - due Nov 11th

A new ficathon designed to celebrate Buffy as a person and a hero instead of focusing on who she's sleeping with!  Prompts aren't out yet, but I pretty much asked to write genfic for this one, and I've been practicing writing Buffy genfic lately.

[info]sshg_exchange - due Nov 16th

I have two ideas for this now that I have my prompts, but one finally crystalized as being more interesting, so I've begun it.

I like that I have an even mix between Buffy and HP (no Firefly though - perhaps it's a blessing that I don't know of any Firefly ficathons).   I feel slightly insane for signing up for all of these when the dates are so close, but I really like all of these ficathons.  Plus, it will make me make time to write, even though work is intense.  I find I'm happier if I'm writing, and I'm missing it already.  It means my bits of free time will be going to writing, so I'll be reading even less than I have lately (which is hardly at all) and betaing just for the usual suspects.  I'm also forcing myself to stick to one shots - no multi-chaptered fic for ficathons anymore, and this means that I have about two months to write ~20K.  Doable, even on a tighter schedule.  [I know there are those of you who can write 2.5K in a day, let alone a week.]

Tabula Litterae Sep. 6th, 2007 @ 10:16 pm
Last week's ficlet, 'Carpe that Diem,' got first place at [info]still_grrr:

Thanks to everyone who voted!  And as always, [info]xlivvielockex did a perfect banner - Willow and Oz and books!

This week, I wrote another ficlet for [info]still_grrr:

Rating: G
Word Count: ~280
Prompt: 29: BtVS S5/S6
Character: Giles

It's set between seasons 5 and 6 and is a bit dark.

Tabula Litterae

I also poked and prodded here and there and rewrote the second paragraph of the Firefly fic  A History of Fire before putting it up at [info]still_grrr.

Joss is writing Crack! (and I'm so addicted) Sep. 5th, 2007 @ 09:32 pm
All my worries about leaving work in time to get to the comic store before it closed were for naught.  No Buffy #6 yet due to the holiday.  Ah, I want my Faith fix.

But ... Sugarshock 2 is out!  Mainline Read it - it's the laugh you need today with just enough wtf? thrown in to exercise brain cells your job put to sleep.

Crossover Joy Sep. 4th, 2007 @ 08:49 pm
The wonderful admins at Sycophant Hex chose my crossover Giles/Snape story 'Recruit' as a featured story for September at Chaos!  Thank you so much to [info]carecrystal  and all the other admins there!  It's an honor.

And speaking of crossovers:

And Now for Something Completely Different

Fandoms: Buffy/HP
Canon Compliancy: Through Buffy season 8, issue 4; post-DH
Paring: Willow/Luna
Rating: G
Genre: Humor
Word Count: ~850 words
Status: Complete
Disclaimer: Not mine; no money.

Summary:  A late birthday fic for [info]mundungus42, who asked for Willow/Luna, causing this to occur inside my whimsical brainpan. Nods to Doug Adams and Monty Python (inspired by [info]beer_good_foamy's recent Buffy/Holy Grail icons, even though I used Flying Circus).

So it's set with characters from two fandoms and makes liberal reference to two more.  That's the most I've ever jammed into any story.  It's pre-femslash.

Another Prezzie! Aug. 31st, 2007 @ 07:47 pm

I received another wonderful birthday prezzie!  [info]sahiya wrote me a Giles/Anya story post 'Tabula Rasa' that's amazing!  I really appreciate this because she doesn't usually write Anya.  It's rated G and the characters' voices are spot on.  Read it here.

Carpe that Diem Aug. 30th, 2007 @ 11:11 pm
I squeaked in with my [info]still_grrr entry this week (and I wonder if it's coherent).

Rating: PG
Word Count: 495
Prompt: 028, BtVS S3/S4
Pairing: Willow/Oz
AN:  Ah, young lust love - it strikes often and true.

Carpe that Diem.

No long fic in me, but at least I've now written ~500 words this week that weren't an e-mail, course announcement, meeting agenda, or syllabus!

Ever More Thanks!!! Aug. 29th, 2007 @ 11:25 pm
The birthday goodies just keep coming!

First off, 'Cleveland' received the first place fic award at [info]still_grrr:

Big thanks to everyone who voted - this was such a lovely surprise to come home to after a long day.  And [info]xlivvielockex did a lovely banner as well - mmm, Giles.

On to better things!  I got prezzies (and more to come - it's like having lots of birthdays!)

First off, [info]dacian_goddess made me a wonderful icon for the Snarry drabble series I wrote for the end of this year's [info]snarry_games!  Take a look at it here.  She wrote great text for it!  (If you want to know what she's referring to, it's here.)

Then, [info]bakatulip made me a truly lovely birthday banner starring Willow and Fred - she's chosen a beautifully happy photo!  See it here.

[info]mundungus42 wrote a fantabulous poem about my writing!  She was able to deftly weave in Buffy and HP.  It completely confirms her brilliance.  It's located here.

And [info]alisanne wrote an amazing post-DH Snarry fic for me that's got a great premise and is hot to boot (NC-17 slash - w00t!)!  Read it here.

Thank you all so much, and thank you to everyone who sent me ecards too!  Hugs and kisses to you all!  And may everyone enjoy these presents with me.

Humongous Thanks! Aug. 26th, 2007 @ 08:53 am
It's been quite a stressful week, so it was such an absolute joy get the news that some kind soul has nominated my Giles/Snape story 'Recruit' for:  Best Plot, Best Slash Pairing Fic, and Best Future Fic at the Bodice Ripper Awards.

Truly, whoever you are, thank you so much.  I've been agonizing lately over the fact that I have no time to write and wondering if I'm insane to miss it so much when I should be focused on having a 'real' job.  You've helped me remember that I need to write and that that's okay.  You've also made my week!

Cleveland Aug. 23rd, 2007 @ 10:22 pm
Fandom: Buffy
Canon Compliancy: Set between Seasons 7 and 8.
Character: Giles
Genre:
Drama
Rating:
G
Word Count:
~1350
Disclaimer:
Not mine; no money.

This fic is a very belated birthday present for [info]sahiya, who asked for Giles and Cleveland.  I hope you like it, even though I took the angst option you offered instead of the funny.

It was also written for [info]still_grrr's [info]prompt to set a fic between Season 7 and 8 and is posted there.

Cleveland.

Happy Aug. 22nd, 2007 @ 10:59 pm

I received word that 'Recruit' has been nominated for the Best Crossover category at Quill to Parchment.  Thanks so much to whomever did so!

Then, 'All Signs Point to Sunnydale' got the First Place Fic Award at [info]still_grrr:

I'm amazed!  Who knew writing the Council being evil and manipulative was such fun?  Thanks to everyone who voted.  And the banner is perfect with Travers' face half in shadow - it just fits the story so well.  [info]xlivvielockex is so very talented!

That?s Showbiz Aug. 20th, 2007 @ 07:42 pm
Crack!Drabble fits with the Monday I had (faculty meeting - nuff said).  So instead of whinging about it, I'm going to offer up the funny.  The Campy men of Angel from ‘The Village People Offensive’ make another appearance in:

That's Showbiz

Written for [info]open_on_sunday's prompt Rock’n’Roll.

Spacecat Rec's: Beta Work Aug. 20th, 2007 @ 08:54 am
I've done a lot of beta work over the past few months that is now seeing the light of day archives, so it's time to pimp.

For the [info]sshg_exchange, I was one of the betas on [info]laiksmarei's funny  'Hook, Line and Sink Her.'  Double entendres taken to an almost cracky extreme and a great use of Kingsley.

Also for the [info]sshg_exchange, I betaed [info]wonderfulwrites' 'Archaeologist.'  An interesting look at how important searching for the truth can be to a person (genfic).

As for secrecy, I did one for someone for Sycophant Hex's Sky is Falling Festival, but I can say no more at this time.

In contrast, I betaed a one shot for [info]laiksmarei that's so exclusive I don't even have access to where it's posted!  (snicker)

For crossover fic, [info]firefly_124 wrote an interesting Buffy/Vorkosigan fic called 'Never Chose this Way.'  It focuses on Ivan with a bit of Dawn, but the two aren't shipped.  (Slash pairing without anything graphic.)

Additionally, [info]firefly_124's wip HP/Buffy crossover 'To Know Who I Am' is now up to chapter 13!  Set in HPland, it's mixing the two 'verses in an interesting fashion and stars Severus and an OFC from Buffyverse.  [There are also links to this at Twisting the Hellmouth on her post.]

Insane Bunny! Aug. 19th, 2007 @ 10:54 am
Since the [info]sshg_exchange is up and running again, I sat down to write my prompts this morning.  And now I'm torn.  I've written one that's strange (snicker) and that I can't decide if I should keep for myself to do for [info]snape_after_dh.  I'm also wondering if I'm cracked to have even thought of it:

A bisexual Severus and a gay Harry are in a fairly stable relationship.  Yet Severus still likes women, and Harry has always longed for a family.  Who else could fit into such an unconventional arrangement but Hermione?  No MPreg, and you don’t have to take it to actual kids – I’m more interested in how the new relationship forms.  [While there is love, I picture no sex between HP and HG, so this is different from a threesome, but you can go there if you want.]  Rating up to you.

So tell me, insane?  Strictly het people won't like it.  Strictly slash people won't like it.  It's not even a threesome fic.  But people do form strange and interesting relationships in the real world that don't fit into little boxes.

The reason I was thinking of keeping it for myself is that I kept wondering how it would all work - what each person would bring to the relationship for the other two.  I see (though I don't write kids) a future where HP stays home with the sproglets while HG and SS get on with careers.  Beyond that, what emotional needs do they serve for each other?

I'm pretty sure, however, that I don't have the time to put into making this story work since my job is insane now (can I blame the crazed crack bunny on that?).  And I have another idea for [info]snape_after_dh.  Argh.  But maybe this one is too weird for the [info]sshg_exchange anyway, so I might table it.

Shaggability Aug. 18th, 2007 @ 11:36 am
I got tagged by the wonderful [info]laiksmarei, so I'm actually doing a meme.

(1) List 5 celebrities you would have sex with without even asking questions.
(2) Put all of them IN ORDER of your lust for them.
(3) Say which movie/show/thing it was that hooked you.
(4) Supply photos for said people.
(5) Tag five people.

Shiny for the Character Sketch Aug. 17th, 2007 @ 09:45 am
I'm so happy!  My recent Giles fic, The Wait by the Phone Is No One's Friend, got first place at [info]still_grrr.

Thanks to everyone who voted and to [info]xlivvielockex for the perfect (as always) banner.

[I'm now writing lots of genfic character sketches.  I'm so hooked.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Buffy and Firefly really lend themselves to it, but I don't see it as much in HP - am I looking in the wrong place?]
